Keep Training Short and Simple
According to Lawrence Lee, director of corporate learning and development for Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, it is important for corporate trainers to remember to customize presentations, especially when training Generation Y colleagues. Training sessions for people born in the 1980s and 1990s should be short and simple, have an attention-grabbing introduction, and offer frequent breaks. Generation Y colleagues will want fast-paced sessions that explain why and what they are studying. Young people will keep eyeing and pressing their mobile phones during sessions, but trainers should not get offended because they are listening, Lee says. He also notes that trainers should let them work in groups. "Otherwise, they will Twitter more than you can talk," adds Lee.
