Brain Boost, the Brain and Learning

Brain Boost has developed and trademarked its unique learning methodology. We call this "The Brain Boost Learning System ™.

We know that you would not expect us to go into deep details here! But, just to give you a little taste of the research, thinking and development that we have journeyed through since 2004, consider that ...

We all know that learning is a complex process and over time we have come to understand a good deal more about what happens when people learn.

Basically, as learners, we construct some meaning from all of the experiences that we encounter - and if it is relevant, we kind-of store it away for later use and recall. When we encounter "new" learning, we sort it and "add" it to the pile of learning that we have all ready done in that particular area of learning.

Simply put, an experience is anything that the brain comes into contact through our five senses (sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell) and a more fully engaged brain is more likely to comprehend and retain the information that is “presented” to it.

We also know that the brain operates in “waves” (we have all heard of “brainwaves”). These waves occur in a couple of ways – when the brain is “up” and ready to really grasp new stuff and when the brain is “down” and ready to sift, sort and distil what it has previously encountered. We know that if we carefully plan our learning episodes in shorter “chunks’ people spend more time with their brain “up” than “down”.

We also know that if people are immersed in an exciting, enthusiastic and emotionally satisfying environment they are more likely to be receptive to the learning at hand. We also know that the brain is more able to retain and revisit learning when a number of key factors are taken into consideration.

So what does this mean for a Brain Boost Learning Program?

Well, we provide a fantastic, safe, enthusiastic learning environment; we accelerate the learning through the use of multiple experiences to our multiple intelligences; we make the most of “up” and “down” time; and we utilise a range of retention strategies to maximise the learning and the opportunity for workplace change!

Pretty neat we think – and so does the Australian Commonwealth Government (who has awarded Brain Boost with "Research and Development" status).

And so do our clients! See what some of them say about Brain Boost here.
